The pilot of the small plane died from crashing into Eagle Mountain Lake in Tarrant County on Monday afternoon.
The small aircraft, identified as a Champion 7EC, crashed into Eagle Mountain Lake just before one in the afternoon. So far, authorities say that only the pilot was inside and it took workers about 11 hours to get their body free from the wreckage. The single-engine plane crashed into about 10 feet of water causing the frame to be bent.
The Fort Worth Fire Department's dive team was on-site, along with the Tarrant County sheriff's deputies, the Eagle Mountain Fire Department, and EMS.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. The name of the pilot is not yet released and it is still unclear what went wrong to cause the plane to go down.
"We do understand that there are medics on scene in the Fort Worth fire, Eagle Mountain fire, Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife," says Chad Lorance of the Tarrant Regional Water District. "Along with the Tarrant Regional Water District law enforcement division are all on scene."
Lorance said there appeared to be a debris field.
This is a developing story, come back for updates.
