Former Congressman Colin Allred spoke Monday morning while filing to run for Congress after abandoning his Senate effort.
Allred is now running in the newly drawn District 33 race.
"This is a district that, in terms of the lines of it being drawn, should not exist," Allred said. "Donald Trump has attempted to racially gerrymander the State of Texas, and with the Supreme Court's help, he's been successful."
Allred said because of the reduction in democratic seats in Texas they must now have the best players on the field.
"To the folks of the 33rd district, which includes the place where I was born and raised, and where I saw my mom struggling growing up, and where so many of the events of my life have taken place," Allred said. "I'm asking humbly for your support and to be your representative in Congress."
This will put Allred against Congresswoman Julie Johnson in the democratic primary in March.
