As lawmakers convene for the special session in Austin, there is a growing concern among many democrats on the redistricting effort which is listed as a part of the session.

Former Congressman Colin Allred, who is in his second attempt at a U. S. Senate run, says Republicans saying they want to pick up five seats out of the redistricting effort should worry everybody.

KRLD's Chad Benson is going to go deep into it on his show today and you don't want to miss it.

"Gerrymandering, which is the drawing of these lines to kind of creatively divide up communities is the reason why the House of Representatives is so broken and one of the reasons why we have been unable to get things done for folks," Allred told KRLD ahead of a rally at Gilley's Dallas over the weekend.

President Donald Trump said lawmakers shouldn't have to start from scratch in drawing up the congressional map but he wants to see republicans gain five seats.

Allred has been campaigning all across Texas with a rally most recently over the weekend in Dallas.

"As a Civil Rights attorney, I can tell you that I've fought my entire career against this kind of blatant power-grabbing that we're seeing with this gerrymandering," Allred said.
