Fort Worth-based American Airlines is being sued by the US Justice Department which also names Jet Blue in an anti-trust action challenging a partnership of the two carriers' operations at four busy airports in the northeast.
The DOJ claims the working relationship of the two will reduce competition and drive up fares for customers.
The deal was previously approved by the Justice Department under president Trump, but now with President Biden in office his administration is taking a harder look at the possibility of anti-trust violations.
Several states including California, Florida, New York and Washington, DC are joining in the lawsuit.
