Things are looking much better for American Airlines today after yesterday's heavy weather put the carrier in quite a bind for much of the day.

American was the hardest hit of all the airlines yesterday, cancelling nearly 500 flights and delaying more than 800.

Reports say Southwest Airlines had more than 140 cancellations as heavy weather stretched from North Texas across the South and into the Northeast.

FAA national traffic management officer John Lucia said on social media yesterday "if you flew into Dallas this morning or you’re planning on flying in or catching a connecting flight there, be advised there were some thunderstorms earlier this morning that may have slowed down the flights and caused delays already."

Early Friday, things look much better. American is reporting 146 cancellations and 179 delays while Southwest's cancellations total 12 with 66 delays.
