An Arlington firefighter is recovering after he was shot early Friday morning while responding to a call, police say.
The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Bardin Greene Drive, Arlington police said. Police officers, firefighters, and AMR personnel responded after dispatch received a call from a resident in a neighboring apartment.
Police said the caller indicated hearing children were screaming for their mother to wake up. After repeated knocks on the door and announcing their presence, authorities decided to get into the apartment.
While first responders attempted to breach the door, a single shot was fired from inside the apartment, striking one of the firefighters at the door.
The firefighter, identified as Brady Weaver, was in stable condition Friday afternoon after being rushed to Medical City Arlington, police said.

Police said no additional shots were fired and no other injuries were reported. A man, a woman, and two children were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. Police said they arrested the man and charged him with aggravated assault. The man also had outstanding warrants, Assistant police Chief Tarrick McGuire said.
The man and the woman were asleep inside the apartment when they heard firefighters starting to breach the door, McGuire said. The woman called 911 as the man fired the single shot.
Arlington fire Chief Bret Stidham said he visited with Weaver and his family and that the firefighter was awake and alert. He asked for prayers for Weaver, his family, and the Arlington Fire Department.
