The workers at General Motors' Arlington factory are working smarter and harder than ever, setting a new monthly record in March for the most vehicles ever produced in the plant's nearly 70-year history.
Reports say more than 5,600 people work at the factory on Highway 360 and in March they put out more than 34,000 new SUVs, some of the most profitable vehicles in GM's fleet.
“Challenges, such as supply disruptions, are overcome by the team on a daily and hourly basis,” said plant executive director John Urbanic. “Our celebration of this milestone is not just about the number, it’s about the people who build consistent quality into every SUV that we produce.”
The SUVs produced in Arlington are shipped across the nation and to nearly 30 other countries. The GM workers build full-size SUVs including Cadillac Escalades, GMC Yukons, Chevy Suburbans and Chevy Tahoes.
The Arlington plant first opened in 1954.
