ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - There's something in the water in Arlington, and this time, that's actually a good thing.
The Texas Water Utilities Association recognizes Arlington Water Utilities as having the best tasting surface water in the state.

"This is the silent service; a lot of people don't miss us until we're not there," says Craig Cummings, Arlington Water Utilities director. "And to have it be a best tasting water is certainly (an honor) that we're very proud of."
Cummings says Arlington has been innovative in how it treats its water.
"We use ozonation, which a lot of other surface water suppliers in the state use," says Cummings. "But we were one of the first, if not the first, in the state to use ozonation."
Arlington's treatment process goes a step further.
"We use small bacteria that are in our filters that really help in the overall process of making the water safer and actually to taste good as well," says Cummings.
Arlington gets its drinking water from four reservoirs: Cedar Creek, Richland Chambers, Lake Arlington, and Lake Benbrook.
Treating water for human consumption can sometimes be a tricky situation.
"Unlike a factory that would be looking at the raw materials coming in the front door, if they didn't quite meet the quality standards, they would reject that shipment," says Cummings. "We don't have that luxury with Mother Nature."
