ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - Kids in the Arlington ISD will have a couple more days off next week.

The Arlington ISD has cancelled classes next Monday and Tuesday.

Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos says one-third of the districts campuses sustained damage due to the arctic blast.

"Water is a big one," says Dr. Cavazos. "Some of our boilers have given in as well; they've been compromised."

Not to mention that the city is under a boil water notice.

"That complicates food preparation, protocols for hand washing and things like that," Dr. Cavazos says.

Dr. Cavazos says parents and teachers are dealing with the same things in their homes as the district is dealing with at its campuses.

"(We wanted to) allow our community and our parents and our students an opportunity to really begin to recover and make sure that they stabilize their situation," says Dr. Cavazos; "and then Wednesday we will begin with that virtual instruction."

Dr. Cavazos says he hopes to open most facilities by Thursday.
