ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD)- Arlington will host a Veterans Day parade Monday in the Entertainment District. The parade is using a grant from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation to pay for the event.
Organizer Kevin Donovan says the city wanted to set up a free, family-friendly event to "bring the community together to honor Texas veterans and boost the spirit of patriotism in The American Dream City.”
The parade will start with music at 3:30 p.m. and a Bell Helicopter flyover at 4 p.m. The route starts at Ballpark Way and Road to Six Flags, near the northeast corner of Choctaw Stadium.
The parade then runs west down Road to Six Flags, around parking lots west of the stadium, past the Medal of Honor Museum and north on AT&T Way, ending in a parking lot near AT&T Way and the I-30 frontage road.
"The inaugural Veterans Day Parade is yet another testament to our community’s deep-rooted respect and gratitude for the brave men and women who have served our country. Arlington has a long history of supporting its veterans, and this parade is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together to honor their sacrifices and celebrate their contributions to our nation,” Arlington Mayor Jim Ross wrote in a statement.
The National Medal of Honor Museum, near the northeast corner of Road to Six Flags and AT&T Way, is scheduled to open in March of 2025.
The grand marshal of the parade is retired Army Major General Patrick Henry Brady. Brady earned the Medal of Honor for flying a medical helicopter into enemy territory in Vietnam to rescue injured service members.
After the parade, a drone show is scheduled at 6 p.m. in a parking lot east of Globe Life Field; a ceremony with music is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Texas Live!
