The two-time Cy Young award winner will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair an ligament tear in his elbow.
He just signed a five-year deal with Texas over the winter. He will likely miss the remainder of the 2023 season and likely part of the 2024 season as he recovers.
Dr. Nathan Boes joined the KRLD Afternoon News to discuss what Tommy John surgery actually is and why it's named as such. He is Director of Sports Medicine at Parkland and Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
