A Denton County grand jury has indicted a 24-year-old man on charges of capital murder in connection to the October killing of his 71-year-old aunt.
Adrian Padilla is accused of fatally stabbing Mary Jicinto after she reportedly tried to evict him from her home. Police discovered Jicinto’s body in her backyard, wrapped in blankets and buried under a pile of dirt. She had stab wounds to her stomach and feet, police said.
Authorities also found bleach bottles and a dirt-covered shovel inside the house.
Padilla told investigators that Jicinto had attacked him and claimed he stabbed her in self-defense. He now faces charges of capital murder and tampering with evidence.
Padilla is being held in the Denton County Jail on a bond of more than $1 million.
