We are in the time of year when the threat of wildfire skyrockets.
Captain Hunter Lott with the Denton Fire Department says every year is different but the middle of August is always the bullseye for wildfires.
"The best thing to keep in mind if you, yourself, are wanting to make a positive difference and not spread fires is just making sure that you, yourself, and the people around you are keeping hot things away from things that can burn," Capt. Lott said.
He says it is critical to be careful if grilling especially when near a fence or on a patio.
"Both of those are areas where you can get yourself in trouble when your home, itself, and your fence is very dry, has very little humidity or moisture in those materials that can burn," he said.
Winds can also make things more risky.
Lott says a cigarette tossed out a window or a spark from a car can result in a damaging fire.
