The world’s largest auction house for military and historical firearms is hosting a one-night-only sale to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday on Saturday.
Collectors will bid on quintessentially American items, like weapons, flags and military artifacts. The Rock Island Auction Company in Bedford invites the public to the evening sale on Saturday at their facilities on Harwood Road, as well as Friday and Saturday when the items will be on display for public inspection before the auction.
Joel Kolander, interactive production manager for Rock Island Auction Company, said bidding could go as high as $3.5 million for the Henry Rifle bearing Serial No. 1, presented to Abraham Lincoln’s Secretary of War Edwin Stanton.
Also up for bid will be a solid gold sword presented to Lt. Col. Armistead who commissioned and raised the original Star-Spangled Banner. The public can also bid on several other items of military and pop culture significance, including items associated with Presidents George Washington and Theodore Roosevelt, Frank Sinatra and the Texas Rangers.
