After a summer of scorching heat and barely a drop of rain, North Texas lakes are very low.

And the low water levels are really obvious at Benbrook Lake where the north side has run bone dry, leaving only cracked, dry mud where clear water should be.

Officials say the lake is only 63% full which means the surface of the water is about ten feet lower than average.

The US Army Corps of Engineers which administers the lake says Benbrook Lake boat ramps are closed until further notice and launching trailered boats from the shore is forbidden.

Canoes, kayaks and other boats that can be hand-launched are still allowed.
