Big Tex Urban Farms is celebrating a massive milestone: One million servings of fresh produce donated to communities in need in South Dallas.
The nonprofit set out to achieve the goal four years ago. State Fair spokesperson Karissa Condoianis says during that time, they've faced plenty of challenges and setbacks, including the start of the pandemic and the ensuing shutdowns, as well as the deadly winter freeze last February. But through it all, the nonprofit emerged stronger than ever.
"I think a lot of us are emotional about it, in a good way," Condoianis said, adding that this is just the beginning. "We set this as a goal to achieve; we've achieved it."
Now, their focus is on the next goal, which is even more massive.
"5-million," Condoianis said. "That's where we want to go from here. And we want to just keep growing."
