Bonton Farms focuses on giving people the tools they need to change their lives for the better.
Described as a healing oasis, the farm works to disrupt cycles of neglect in the South Dallas neighborhood of Bonton— taking special care of the unemployable, homeless, formerly incarcerated and the addicted.
The farm's market, cafe and coffeehouse already bring people from all over North Texas. But Daron Babcock, the farm's owner, says he wants to do more. He's planning a giant expansion to restore the foundation of Bonton, including healthcare, affordable housing and banking.
Today, Bonton Farms is kicking off Project Gamechanger. It's an 11.6 million dollar fundraising effort designed to spark change. If it succeeds, Bonton will get a health and wellness center, a financial institution and mote affordable housing. The farm will expand its enterprises, too.
Babcock says you have to focus on an entire ecosystem for a community to flourish, and that's what the goal is here.
