Several businesses were evacuated and one side of Highway 78 was closed in Wylie on Monday due to suspicious items left outside a pawn shop, police say.
Police say Texas Dollar Pawn & Gun reported surveillance footage showing an individual dropping off a propane tank and a 55-gallon drum near the store, located at the intersection of Highway 78 and Eubanks Lane. Officers responded to the scene and called in the fire department to assess the potential danger.
Out of caution, authorities evacuated nearby businesses and shut down southbound lanes of Highway 78. No injuries have been reported, and officials have confirmed the materials were safe.
Police kept the highway closed Monday afternoon due to the criminal investigation.
