Small businesses on Fort Worth's Near Southside are working together on a campaign to draw customers to small shops and restaurants this weekend.
"Merry on Main" is taking place Saturday and Sunday, while "Merry on Magnolia" is just on Sunday. Both events run from 12-5 p.m.
"We did a collaborative effort to promote shopping small in the Near Southside," said Tina Howard, owner of Stir Crazy Baked Goods on Magnolia near 5th Street.
Many businesses are running sales or specials this weekend to draw people in. Howard is offering 10% off Christmas and New Year's custom orders. Stir Crazy is also planning a cookie decorating party Sunday.
"I really believe, and I think a lot of our counterparts in the neighborhood believe that motto of a rising tide lifts all boats," Howard said. "We live in such a cool area where you can eat, walk, shop and get your hair done and have a drink. You can really spend your entire afternoon in our area."
In 2020, the Texas Commission on the Arts named the Near Southside a cultural district. As more small galleries, shops and restaurants have opened, Howard said Merry on Main and Merry on Magnolia can give people a chance to check out sales at businesses they already know and then learn about others opening up nearby.
"The Near Southside is such a special place, especially for small business," she said. "The neighborhood itself is already so supportive of businesses like that and then we've got a great network of other business owners that come together and support one another."
