We’ve had some wild weather in Dallas lately, but we have some "egg-cellent" news to share from the nest.
Dallas city Conservation Manager, Brett Johnson, says it appears Nick and Nora, the White Rock Lake resident bald eagles, and their three growing eaglets survived recent high winds, hard rain, and even some hail.
Here is the latest from the nest:
- Three for Three: Despite the heavy rounds of storms over the last several days, all three eaglets are confirmed safe and accounted for.
- Storm-Proof: While the wind and rain were intense, the nest itself is in great shape. Wildlife photographers captured footage of all three babies yesterday, and they remained tucked safely in the nest during this morning’s check.
- The "Underdog" is Holding Strong: There is a noticeable size difference between the first two hatchlings and the third, smaller eaglet. However, Brett reports that the "little one" is holding its own and doing well!
Looking Ahead: The "Branching" Phase
We are entering a critical time for the family. As the eaglets get older, they will begin "branching"—hopping out of the nest and onto nearby limbs to practice their balance and wing strength before their first official flight.
⚠️ Important Safety Reminders: As the eaglets start moving around, they may end up in unexpected places—like playgrounds or near roads. To keep them safe during this vulnerable time, the city may need to make temporary adjustments to access and speed limits in the area over the next 10 to 14 days.
Please continue to respect the fencing and give this family the space they need to grow. We’ll have more updates as they prepare for their big takeoff!
