Carrollton kicks off "Bags to Benches" recycling program

The City of Carrollton Parks & Recreation Department is on a mission to recycle and reuse.

They have introduced a new recycling program that will turn plastic bags, wraps, and films into Earth-friendly composite benches. Those benches will be placed at facilities and green spaces around town.

"Bags to Benches" kicked off on Monday, September 27th, and will continue through February 28th. NexTrex is a film and bag recycling company that will create the park bench made from all of the donated plastic products. Within those six months, the City of Carrollton hopes to reach its goal of 600 pounds of eligible plastic waste in order to create one park bench.

Cody Scallions is with the Perry Museum and is part of the project. He says he is optimistic they will reach or surpass their goal. In less than one full week they have already collected nearly 40 pounds.

Anyone is invited to come and drop off their plastic wraps at any of Carrollton's drop-off locations.
