CELINA, Texas—Celina High School (CHS) Principal Dr. John Burdett informed school families over the weekend, that teacher and coach Neil Phillips, has been placed on administrative leave following allegations of inappropriate conduct stemming from a social media post.
The social media post referenced claims against Mr. Phillips related to his previous employment at Melissa ISD. Celina ISD stated it was notified of the allegations on Friday, October 31st.
Immediate District Action
Upon receiving the notification, the District took swift action:
Administrative Leave: Mr. Phillips was immediately placed on administrative leave.
Investigation Launched: Celina ISD began its internal investigation into the matter.
External Referral: The incident was reported to the Texas Education Agency State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and referred to law enforcement for further investigation.
Discrepancy in Hiring Information
According to Dr. Burdett's message, Mr. Phillips was hired for the 2025-2026 school year as a teacher and coach. At the time of his application, he reportedly denied any prior investigations, administrative leave with pay, or resignation in lieu of non-renewal or termination. His certificate with the TEA State Board for Educator Certification was clear.
"The information recently provided does not appear to be consistent with information received at the time of Mr. Phillips’s application," the principal wrote. The District is actively investigating this discrepancy as part of its full review of the claims and the hiring process.
Ensuring Student Continuity
Celina ISD stressed that the safety and well-being of its students remain its highest priority. To ensure minimal disruption:
Teaching Coverage: An experienced substitute, alongside the CHS Social Studies Team Lead, Instructional Coach, and Central Office staff, will coordinate to maintain the quality of World Geography classes.
Wrestling Program: Assistant Coach Terry Grayson will assume Head Coaching responsibilities, with support from Interim Athletic Director Kyle Sheridan and High School Administration.
The message concluded by encouraging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Mindy Schoen, Celina ISD Director of Human Resources.
