Hundreds of thousands of North Texas students return to class this week under a new state law that bans the use of cell phones and other personal devices during school hours.
The rule applies to smartphones, smartwatches, earbuds and gaming devices. In Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISd, Executive Director of Student Services Leon Sulak said devices must be turned off and kept out of sight, with limited exceptions for medical or safety needs.
District officials say the policy is intended to help students stay focused on learning. Parents are being encouraged to talk with their children about how they will adjust to life without their phones during the school day.
