By 2050, North Texas will be home to around 3 million children, and hospitals like Children's Health are trying to keep up with the growth.
"It's especially important right now," president of the Children’s Medical Center Foundation Brent Christopher said. "We all feel every day how much this North Texas region is growing. That's a lot more kids and families living in our neighborhoods all over this region. That also means we've got to expand the facilities that are available to take care of them when they need it."
Children’s Medical Center Plano has been constructing a new tower that will expand the campus from 72 available patient beds to 212. The project will also more than triple the number of ICU beds at the hospital.
Thursday, Children's Health announced the latest gift toward the important project, a $1 million donation from Take 5 Oil Change and Take 5 Car Wash.
"Children’s Health is grateful to Take 5 for their generous gift to help expand Children’s Medical Center Plano,” Christopher said.
To date, more than $14 million has been raised in community support for the expansion, including $7.5 million from Bright Industries and $500,000 from the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation.
"We are not done," Christopher said of the fundraising effort. "We welcome more people to be involved in bringing this new extension of the Children's Medical Center Plano Campus to life."
In addition to the expanded capacity, the project in Plano will grow the emergency department providing a higher level of trauma care. There will be dedicated behavioral health treatment rooms to provide emergency mental health care for children. The project is also renovating the Plano radiology department space.
