DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Dallas wants to keep its new short-tern rental ban and is ready to go to court to defend it.

City leaders are asking a state appeals court to overturn a local judge’s ruling blocking Dallas from banning short-term rentals in some neighborhoods.

Some property owners are upset about the new rules calling them unconstitutional because they infringe on property rights. Those homeowners argue they are being punished even though there are no complaints against them.

The owners say they welcome additional oversight to cut down on noise and parking complaints but they oppose an outright ban.

Dallas approved zoning changes for short-term rentals back in June restricting them from single-family neighborhoods.

Last month a district court judge sided with the property owners and issued an injunction to stop the new rules from taking effect.
