The Collin County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a scam targeting Toll Tag users.
According to the sheriff’s office, scammers have sent text messages falsely claiming recipients’ toll tags have overdue balances. The messages include a link to a website where the alleged payment can be made — a site that authorities confirmed does not belong to any legitimate agency.
The Texas Department of Transportation has also issued a warning, noting that scammers are attempting to trick people into believing they have overdue Tex-Tag bills.
Officials advise anyone needing to check their toll tag balance from the North Texas Tollway Authority or TxTag to visit the official websites directly.
