Dallas (1080 KRLD) - The Hill County Constable who was wounded last week says he has undergone one surgery and will need at least one other for a wound suffered in a shootout with two wanted men.
He is also anxious to get back to work.
Kevin Cordell suffered a gunshot wound to the face after he was involved in a chase with Dallas murder suspects on May 13.
19-year-old Adrian Murillo of Lancaster was killed after his car crashed and the brothers got into a shootout with police near Alvarado. His twin brother, Hector, is now in the Tarrant County jail.
The murder arrest warrants were for a 2021 death in the city of Dallas, said a source in a position to know. Dallas police have not released details of that murder.
Court records show both Murillos' had faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon when there were allowed out of the Dallas County jail on ankle monitors. The records show five different cases in which four people were threatened with guns. The records also show that prosecutors had asked that the two be held without bond, but that State District Court Judge Lela Lawrence Mays allowed both brothers to post bail and be released with the electronic monitors.
Furthermore, the records say both men subsequently cut off their monitors and were on the lam when they were spotted near the Ellis County town of Waxahachie.
Cordell still declines to talk about the case, which remains under investigation. Dozens of well-wishers have sent him messages across social media, particularly after Cordell posted a video statement on his Facebook page
As previously reported by KRLD news, county records show almost 170 murder and capital murder suspects have been allowed to post bond and be released from the Dallas County jail with ankle monitors during the pandemic.
The Dallas County District Attorney's office has moved to revoke bond.
"On numerous occasions, my staff asked that the bails be raised or to modify bond conditions in the cases involving the Murillo brothers. The amounts were raised and the conditions were modified. Unfortunately, they posted bond, were released and then violated the conditions of their release." said District Attorney John Creuzot in a statement e-mailed to KRLD news.
