DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Excitement is building in Dallas after the groundbreaking for a $5 billion pediatric health campus that will replace the current Children's Medical Center.

The new campus, located on Harry Hines between Inwood and Mockingbird, will include a state-of-the-art hospital with two 12-story towers and one 8-story tower and will expand care for one of the fastest-growing regions in the U.S.

The groundbreaking was Tuesday in Dallas and Dr. Jonathan Efron from UT Southwestern says in addition to treatment, the new space will be about research and education.

North Texas' pediatric population is expected to double by 2050.
