Cook Children's Medical Center says it received its first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine for younger kids.
The hospital system says it got enough doses to vaccinate more than 3,000 patients and plans to announce details of the mass vaccination clinics soon.
The hospital system says families of Cook Children's patients will be contacted directly via text or email, and they will not need to call their pediatricians to make appointments.
The final approval for the vaccine to be given to children between 5 and 11 years old was given by U.S. health officials on Tuesday night.
