Senator Cornyn calls Texas lawsuit to overturn the election results in four states 'a bridge too far'

On a conference call with reporters on Thursday Texas Senator John Cornyn said he's not convinced the Texas lawsuit to nullify the election results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin has merit. The former Texas Attorney General and State Supreme Court Justice said he's also not confident the US Supreme Court will even grant a review of the petition.

Cornyn did say that he supports President Trump's right to pursue judicial review, but he calls the Texas lawsuit challenging state's rights to be unprecedented. "It looks like the runway is very short for the Trump campaign," said Cornyn. "I think it's looking increasingly like Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the next president on January the 20th."

Cornyn says the Texas suit does come with consequences. "This idea of one state or one group of States challenging the constitutionality of actions taking according to the laws and authorities in other States is, like I said, unprecedented and I think it has some pretty serious ramifications," said Cornyn. "I'm sure the court will consider all of those items and deciding how to dispose of the case."

Cornyn even provided a Second Amendment analogy as for why Texans should not be in support of states vs states lawsuits being filed with the US Supreme Court. "If you're from Illinois and you think there ought to be a confiscation of all semi-automatic weapons, could you file a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the United States and challenge the constitutionality of Texas law on that regard?"

Cornyn also restated a comment that he made on Wednesday saying, "I saw a summary of the complaint and I'm skeptical of its chances for success."
