A federal court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the parents of a white Coppell high school student who alleged reverse discrimination after a teacher’s classroom assignment.
The student, identified in court documents as JEC, was attending Coppell’s New Tech High when a teacher assigned the class to write about "diverse atomic theory scientists." When JEC asked for clarification, the teacher reportedly instructed students to “pick any scientist other than an old dead white guy.”
Two months later, JEC filed a complaint about the assignment. Not long after, the student made an online statement that school officials deemed a potential threat. While the police did not classify it as a criminal threat, the school district transferred JEC to an alternative education program.
The student's parents sued the district, claiming reverse discrimination. However, the court ruled that the lawsuit failed to present a valid legal argument supporting the claim and dismissed the case.
