An Allen couple has lost their fight over their autistic child's education. The argument was whether the Allen school district was giving the child a "free appropriate public education."
The unnamed child, since the suit does not disclose the names of any juveniles, was diagnosed with various issues traced to autism and a speech impediment. In their suit, the parents accused the Allen ISD of not making appropriate accommodations.
The district disputes that, and a US District Court judge ruled that even though many of the issues came up during the covid 19 shutdown, the District still held meetings and devised an education plan.
However, the court also noted that the parents missed crucial meetings. The judge dismissed the suit and an appellate court backed the judge. Overall, the US District Court ruled that Allen ISD was providing free appropriate education.
