COVID-19 hospitalization rate rises, most unvaccinated

The COVID-19 hospitalization rate in North Texas has hit a level that doctors haven't seen for several months.

14 percent of available hospital beds in North Texas are now occupied by COVID-19 patients and more than one-third of the adult ICU beds are being used for COVID-19 patients.

Parkland Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joseph Chang says most of those patients are not vaccinated.

"Our nurses, they go in there and they hold their hands as they watch their patients' tears flow over the fact that they know that they could've prevented it," said Chang.

More than 2,000 people are now hospitalized in North Texas as part of the fourth surge of COVID-19.
