As the Dallas Cowboys prepare to kick off their new season, fans are displaying a lack of enthusiasm. Typically, the start of the Cowboys' season would be met with excitement, but this year's anticipation seems muted.
"I think it's just going to be the same as usual. We usually say this is our year, but then something always happens," one fan said.
Another expressed a more extreme view, saying, "I hope we go 0-17 so we can get a first-round quarterback."
Despite the overall feeling, some fans remained hopeful.
"I like to give everybody the benefit of the doubt because it takes a lot to build a good team, so maybe they stand a chance," another supporter said.
Fans are questioning why the Cowboys have struggled to make a deep playoff run. One cited a broader issue, suggesting, "I think it's just the Dallas personality overall. I feel like a lot of people in Dallas have that mentality, so of course it's going to obviously reflect on the sports team."
The team's owner, Jerry Jones, is also a focal point of criticism. One fan argued that changes at the top could make a difference: "Certainly JJ, it's his money, it's his team. If he were to relinquish that role and give it to Stephen, I think Stephen would hire a real (general manager) and that would change the Cowboys' legacy and my optimism."
"It starts at the top," another fan said. "We either are the cheapest team in free agency and don't add to the players that we have, and obviously the players that we have at the moment haven't gotten us over the hump in a long time."
As the season begins, the Cowboys will need to address these concerns if they hope to restore faith among their fan base.
