A 9-year-old girl from Dallas won a contest set up by the nonprofit LemonadeDay.org and the Governor's Commission for Women for her lemonade stand. The nonprofit says more than 300 kids entered the "Junior Pitch Competition."

Skylar Lewis won for her stand, Skylar's Sweet Snacks, and answered questions from the commission Wednesday.

"What have been some of the hardest things you've had to overcome in running your business?" she was asked.

"COVID," Lewis responded. "That's the reason I have my lemonade in bottles is so I could keep less contact."

"What do you enjoy most about your business?" another panelist asked.

"I enjoy seeing the smiles on peoples' faces after they try my lemonade," Lewis answered.

Leadership for Lemonade Day says the organization aims to help kids develop business skills and learn about responsibility, financial literacy, goal setting and teamwork.

"We want to teach entrepreneurial spirit, how to persevere in challenging times," says Lemonade Day National Chief Executive Nicole Cassier-Mason.

Lewis won $1,000 for her pitch. She says she will use the money to expand her stand, adding additional flavors of lemonade and also more types of Rice Krispie treats.

"It can be amazing," she says. "You won't know what you can do if you hold back."
