The City of Dallas is starting town hall meetings to hear people's priorities for the next budget year. The Dallas City Council passed its largest budget ever for the fiscal year that started in October, totaling $4.6 billion.
The budget lowered the property tax rate for the eighth straight year, but many residents did not see a reduction on their bill because of increasing property values.
The largest segment of this year's budget is public safety, which received $662 million. That money included the hiring of 250 police officers and 100 firefighters.
The City of Dallas' budget also included $130 million for street improvements.
