City leaders broke ground Wednesday on a new Dallas Police Academy facility at the University of North Texas at Dallas campus, marking a major step in the city's ongoing effort to bolster public safety infrastructure and officer recruitment.
The new facility will provide modern training resources for recruits and support recent momentum in reducing local violent crime, according to Dallas City Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn, who attended the ceremony.
Under a partnership with UNT Dallas, recruits will have the opportunity to earn college credit while completing their academy training, creating an accelerated pathway toward an associate or bachelor's degree.
Construction on the new training complex is scheduled for completion in 2028.
