A Dallas City Council committee has approved a resolution opposing proposed state legislation that would redirect some of DART’s sales tax revenue to its member cities for road projects.
Two bills filed in the Texas Legislature would require DART to return a portion of its funding, a move that council members argue would hurt the agency’s ability to provide bus and rail services.
Some member cities have pushed for the budget cuts, claiming they are not receiving enough benefits for the amount they contribute. However, Dallas officials contend that reducing DART’s budget would negatively impact transit-dependent residents.
The full Dallas City Council is expected to vote on the resolution later this month.
