Dallas City Council passes temporary waiver to help bars, restaurants

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - As the months turn cold and people no longer want to sit at outdoor patios, restaurants and bars are in danger of losing business. That's something the Dallas City Council is trying to help prevent.

According to the city rules, if restaurants cover their patios, they have to provide additional parking. Today, the council passed a temporary measure waiving that rule.

"This is a solution that will not fit for all for our establishments," said Councilman David Blewett during today's council meeting. "But it is my great hope that we can benefit dozens, if not more, of our establishments to navigate this through the winter months."

The waiver will last through April and is subject to Governor Abbott's orders. If necessary, it could be renewed.
