The Dallas City Council voted 13-2 on Wednesday to make Interim City Manager Kimberly Tolbert the permanent occupant of that office, Mayor Eric Johnson says.

“I am proud to support Kimberly Bizor Tolbert as Dallas’ new city manager,” said Mayor Johnson. “As Interim City Manager, Tolbert has streamlined city operations, improved government efficiency, reduced taxpayer waste, and delivered a budget with the largest single-year property tax rate reduction in Dallas history.”

Tolbert was considered the frontrunner, having garnered support from several local organizations and community leaders.

Johnson also said in his announcement he looked forward to continuing to create a safe environment in Dallas with Tolbert as the city council starts a search for new police and fire chiefs.

The other finalists for the position included Fort Worth Assistant City Manager William Johnson and Sacramento Assistant City Manager Mario Lara.
