Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax on Wednesday submitted his letter of resignation, effective June 3. He has been city manager since 2017, but there have been conflicts for years.
Mayor Eric Johnson called for Broadnax's resignation last year over problems with 911 calls, a massive city data loss, and a backlog in the city permitting office. There wasn't enough support from the council then, but Broadnax has decided to leave.
"It is my hope that my departure provides the City Council an opportunity to reset, refocus, and transition to a new City Manager that continues to move the City forward and will allow for a more effective working relationship with the Mayor and the City Council moving forward," Broadnax wrote in his resignation letter.
Dallas City Councilman Omar Narvaez issued a statement that said in part:
"I am thankful to City Manager Broadnax for his service to Dallas, and wish him well in his future endeavors. I am proud to have worked with him to move Dallas forward on issues facing everyday people like a focus on affordable housing, slowing gentrification, job creation, improving infrastructure, environmental justice, navigating a global pandemic and improving public safety all with a racial equity focus on historically divested communities."
He said the council would have to start the process soon to search for his replacement and promised to share the details as they are available.
