An invasive beetle called the emerald ash borer is spreading across North and East Texas and was confirmed in the city of Dallas this week.

Experts said there are already millions of the insects, which only attack ash trees, in Texas.

"That spread is very rapid and most likely due to humans moving infested wood, whether it's infested firewood or wood waste from utility trimming and yard trimming," said Allen Smith, an entomologist with the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Dallas said it would monitor and track the emerald ash borers and treat or remove infested trees that pose safety issues.

Experts said if you think a tree in your yard might be infested to call a certified arborist or the Texas A&M Forest Service.
