A Dallas City Council Housing and Homelessness Solutions committee meeting ended abruptly this week after a city councilman questioned an SMU data professor's study.
Councilman Adam Bazaldua asked if data suggesting that DART has a direct effect on homelessness encampments was subjective and based on theory.
Committee Chair Cara Mendelsohn quickly responded to Bazaldua's questioning.
"This presentation is from the professor. We are not going to do this today," Mendelsohn told Bazaldua.
Bazaldua told Mendelsohn that he could use his time to ask the question and Mendelsohn responded that his time had ended.
The spar came after SMU Professor of IT and Data Analytics Allen Guinn presented map overlays of DART stations and routes compared with reports of homeless encampments.
The data also included information on natural or unexplained deaths outdoors.
Bazaldua eventually left causing the meeting to lose quorum.
The presentation comes as four cities outside of Dallas have called for public votes on ending participation with DART.
