For the first time since 1991, Dallas County will have a Chief Medical Examiner who is not named Dr. Jeffrey Barnard.
Today the long-time Medical Examiner announced Wednesday, that he will be retiring on Nov. 1st. In his 33 years, Barnard's office oversaw the autopsies in hundreds of criminal cases and was one of the first in the country to help solve cold-case rapes through the use of DNA.
The search will begin for a replacement.
