The mayor of Rowlett is voicing concerns after Dallas County officials moved the city’s early voting location ahead of the upcoming election.

Traditionally, early voting in Rowlett has taken place at a well-established site with ample parking, and the last presidential election reportedly went smoothly.

"There is only one facility that makes sense to host this kind of turnout and that is the Rowlett Community Center," Mayor Blake Margolis said.

However, county officials shifted the polling site less than a mile away to Freedom Place Church, which has only about a dozen parking spaces.

Adding to the issue, the church may lack a valid certificate of occupancy, according to officials. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said they are working with the district attorney’s office to determine whether the church can legally host early voting.

"We normally don't move polling locations this close to an election," Jenkins said.

Early voting begins Oct. 21.
