A reward is now being offered for information leading to the arrest of the individual who hit and killed an Arlington Police officer last week.
The Dallas County Sheriffs office and Arlington Police held a news conference Tuesday afternoon to announce new information in the case, and reflect on the life of motorcycle officer Darrin McMichael.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Department says the officer was riding to work on his motorcycle on Interstate 20. The department says traffic started slowing down in front of the officer, and the officer "bumped" the car in front of him.
"The rider fell off to the left-hand side of the motorcycle," says the Sheriff's Department's Doug Sisk. "At that point in time, a dark-colored Dodge-Chrysler-type vehicle ran over the individual and then continued westbound on I-20."
Sisk says the other car drove off.
A reward totaling $20,000 ($15k from Oak Farms Dairy, $5k from North Texas Crime Stoppers) is being offered for information on the suspect that ran from the deadly accident.
Arlington Police have confirmed Officer Darrin McMichael died at the hospital. They say McMichael had been with the department 24 years and was assigned to the motorcycle unit the past 13 years.
Visitation for Officer McMichael will be held this evening at Wade Funeral Home on Pioneer Parkway in Arlington from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be a viewing Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Crossroads Christian Church on Highway 360 in Grand Prairie followed immediately by his funeral with police honors at 10 a.m.
