Dallas has saved millions thanks to newly-announced federal funding for an extensive trail project.
The Cotton Belt Trail will run alongside the eventual DART Silver Line connecting Plano to DFW Airport.
The original funding plan would have delayed Dallas' participation according to City Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn. Now funding from the Regional Transportation Council will save the city about $7-million.
Mendelsohn says this helps complete a vision years in the making.
"This RTC funding saves the City of Dallas approximately $7 million and helps complete a vision years in the making," Mendelsohn said. "We now have funding the final unfunded segment of the Cotton Belt Trail in District 12."
The Cotton Belt Trail runs through Dallas as well as Richardson, Addison, Coppell and Grapevine.
