The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees will consider a change to the school calendar when they meet today.
Board members are being asked to cancel classes on November 8th and instead make that date a "virtual professional development day" for teachers and other school staffers.
November 8th is the General Election day for 2022. Texans will go to the polls that day to vote for Governor, and several cities across north Texas will also have local issues on the ballot. More than half of the schools in the Dallas ISD regularly serve as polling places.
An official with the Dallas ISD tells board members that giving members of the general public open access to school campuses could lead to safety concerns.
