Dallas school superintendent Michael Hinojosa vows his mask mandate will be enforced as Dallas schools are fully opened today in spite of yesterday's Texas Supreme Court ruling backing Governor Abbott's executive order that restricts local entities from imposing mask mandates.
Sunday's ruling blocks, at least temporarily, mask mandates in Dallas and Bexar Counties.
But in a Sunday evening news conference, Hinojosa stressed his job, "to protect the health and safety of our students."
Hinojosa justifies his decision by pointing out that Abbott's order specifically mentions Dallas County and County Judge Clay Jenkins, but says nothing about Dallas public schools.
"So we are going to have the mask mandate tomorrow. We're going to be benevolent, we're going to be nice, and we're going to be firm and we're going to enforce it," Hinojosa said to NBCDFW.com
