A Dallas man was shot eight times on March 1 after a suspect used an unsolicited pizza delivery to lure him to his front door - a premeditated ambush that police say was carefully staged, and for which no arrest has been made nearly three weeks later.
Dallas Police responded to the 1800 block of Sedona Lane at approximately 4:13 p.m. and found the victim in critical condition. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported him to a local hospital, where he survived despite being struck eight times.
Surveillance video from across the street shows a delivery driver arrive in a dark-colored sedan, retrieve food from the back seat, and walk to the front door of the home. As the driver approached, the suspect — dressed in all black — emerged from around the corner and waited near the garage door for the victim to answer.
The victim's sister told NBC 5 that her brother never ordered pizza that day but opened the door because he thought his girlfriend might have sent it. "He didn't think nothing of it," she said. "He opened the door to receive a pizza that he did not order. When he opened the door immediately, he was shot."
Once the victim opened the door, the suspect rushed him and shot him several times, then fled - only to return briefly to fire additional shots before escaping in a silver Chevrolet Trax.
Detectives say the attack was anything but random. "We believe this is a planned attack. The suspect searched the area, got the victim's name to make the order online, and he knew that the order had to be less than fifty dollars, had to make a delivery and had to be paid by cash," Detective Michael Bui told FOX 4.
The suspect remains at large. Dallas Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective M. Bui, Badge No. 8473, at 214-672-3538 or michael.bui@dallaspolice.gov. The case is documented under case number 029209-2026. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS.
